TOPEKA (KSNT) – Workers are busy putting together a big development project in an area in south Topeka this week.
Construction work got underway on March 17 for the future site of the Capital City’s first QuikTrip gas station and convenience store. City leaders previously approved nearly $20 million in tax incentives for the development of this area which is known as the Sunflower Crossing Redevelopment District.
City workers and road crews partially closed southbound Topeka Boulevard just south of 38th Street to accommodate work on the project area. Traffic engineers expect the closure to last about a month’s time.
The Sunflower Crossing District won’t just include a new QuikTrip gas station. Plans for the area also note the addition of a new retail building and a sit-down restaurant.

You can find the Sunflower Crossing Redevelopment District in a section of land consisting of just over nine acres. It is northwest of where Topeka Boulevard and Kansas Avenue meet in south Topeka.
