EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia fire investigators have wrapped up an investigation into a deadly Emporia house fire that occurred in December last year.
The Emporia Fire Department announced on March 20 that it has concluded its investigation into a deadly house fire that happened on Dec. 23, 2025 in the 800 block of Clark Street in Emporia. Investigators conducted an examination of the scene and reviewed the available physical evidence related to this deadly fire incident.
The EFD said the fire is ultimately classified as undetermined. Investigators gave the fire this designation after locating multiple possible ignition scenarios and an examination of the available evidence could not point to one specific source for the fire.
Fire investigators said that, while the fire is classified as undetermined, the likely cause of the fire was an accidental ignition involving discarded smoking materials. The EFD has yet to name the individual who died as a result of this fire.
