KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some residents in Lawrence, Kansas might’ve been surprised to see how much they owed on their utility bills recently.
According to the City of Lawrence, customers with a utility bill dated March 16, 2026, may have incorrectly received a print bill that is meant for another customer. The incorrect bill would have a different name and address on the top of the document.

The city said this issue affected 5,000 customers and only those who received a printed utility bill on March 16.
They stated they expected to have the issue resolved soon and are working with their bill print vendor to investigate what caused this. The city also stated they anticipate to have the correct bills printed and mailed this week.
In the meantime, customers have been asked to use the online portal to view their correct bill, by clicking here. To make an account, customers can click here.
If you don’t have a portal account and don’t want to set one up, you can email utilitybilling@lawrenceks.gov to have the correct bill mailed to you.
The city says while the incorrect utility bills included customer name, account number and bill amount information, that is not enough information for people unaffiliated with the customer’s account to gain access to it.
