TOPEKA (KSNT) – Local older adults are showing off their artistic talent in the Capital City.
The Topeka Presbyterian Manor started its annual Art is Ageless show on Monday, April 6. All of the artists involved in the show are 65 or older.
“As you age, there’s a certain perception that we’re just sitting around playing bingo,” said Carol Maynard with the Topeka Presbyterian Manor. “Senior living residents are actually very creative.”
Around 50 older adults participated in the 2026 exhibit this week. One of them is 90-year-old Carolyn Sailors. She’s been embroidering since her youth.

“I learned to embroider when I was a little girl from my mother, my grandmothers, and my aunts,” Sailors said. “I would sit with them and do what they did.”

The Topeka Presbyterian Manor’s show ends with a reception on Thursday, April 9 where the winner will be revealed. The winner, who will be selected by professors from Washburn University, will be featured on a calendar.
For many of the artists, it’s not about the prize. The opportunity to share their work is reward enough.
“It’s a pretty amazing program because it brings artists together,” Maynard said. “It’s not only for the artists at the reception, but for our residents, and for people who just want to learn about art.”
“I like to see the expression on people’s faces when they see my work,” Sailors said. “Most everyone likes my work, and it makes me feel good.”
The Art is Ageless exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April 7-10 in the rotunda area of the Topeka Presbyterian Manor located at 4712 SW Sixth Ave. in Topeka. You can learn more about the exhibit by clicking here.
