TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Shawnee County commissioner stopped by the 27 News studio Friday to chat about local events and big road work projects.
Shawnee County Commissioner Bill Riphahn sat down with 27 News host Victoria Calhoun on April 10 to talk about multiple different topics. He first touched on the Tulips at Twilight celebration at Ward-Meade Park, which is part of the Tulip Time event in Topeka. He also talked about recent upgrades at the Kossover Tennis Center at 2540 SW Gage Blvd.
“Kossover Tennis, we had like 19 courts and now we have like 22 courts,” Riphahn said. “And the beauty of that is it makes us eligible to get these sectional tournaments and just bigger tournaments more on a national scale and we have one of the best tennis facilities in the whole Midwest and it wasn’t just adding some more courts, we resurfaced all the courts out there and then we changed all the lighting to LED lighting. We added some big shade structures which are great for people viewing the tennis matches as well as for athletes in between matches, it gives them some shade.”
Riphahn also talked about two road work projects in the county. This included the closure of a bridge on Calhoun Bluff Road starting on April 27 and the ongoing work on 46th Street.
“It’s coming along, we should be completely done by November, but a lot of it’s open now,” Riphahn said when talking about the 46th Street project.
