TOPEKA (KSNT) - It’s that time of year again, as some high school students are participating in the yearly tradition of playing “Senior Assassin.”
This is something some students look forward to right before graduation. That being said, Topeka police want to remind students to stay safe while still having fun.
Senior Assassin is a student-run elimination game that may involve water guns, as well as sneaking up on someone, to disqualify them from the game. The goal is to be the last person standing.
Police want to remind students to make sure their water guns or toy guns look different from real firearms. The use of realistic-looking toy guns can result in confrontations with law enforcement.
“We definitely want the kids to have fun,” said Detective Alexander Wall of the Topeka Police Department. “One of the things that we would suggest is if you can use a water gun, just make sure it actually looks like a real water gun. And obviously, sometimes they want to do it in public. And I have no qualms with the let’s make it so that way. Nobody thinks that something bad is happening.”

After speaking to the detective, he made it clear they want students to have fun and participate, but to be smart while doing so.
