TOPEKA (KSNT) — Students celebrated their fundraiser Thursday for the upcoming Germanfest in Topeka, earning over $10,000 in the weeks before the festival. However, one third grader stood out, breaking the single-student record with $4,474 raised.
Sacred Heart Church announced its student raffle fundraising earnings on April 30 for Germanfest, a two-day event on June 6 and 7 celebrating German heritage, according to its website. Holy Family Catholic School, which is located next to Sacred Heart, sells raffle tickets to raise money for the festival.
One third grader, now honored with the title of “burgermeister,” raised over $4,400 on her own. The burgermeister title is given to the student who sold the most raffle tickets.

The school said Germanfest is one of its biggest fundraisers of the year, and the money raised goes directly back into classrooms and student programs.
The festival in Topeka’s Oakland neighborhood kicks off with an outdoor mass and features food, music and carnival games. You can learn more about Germanfest and the weekend’s events by visiting Sacred Heart’s website.
