TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka’s local arts district, NOTO, was granted a big check Wednesday to help support young artists here in the Capital City.
The financial services company Security Benefit donated $6,000 to the NOTO Arts District on May 6. With this money, NOTO will be able to do more community events, such as the youth festival and the summer concert series.
Organizers associated with NOTO want kids to come to the area and express their creativity. This will include the distribution of free art supplies to help encourage children to be more creative.
“I think we really need to champion our youth and making sure that they can grow in Topeka, they can be creative in Topeka, and they can believe in themselves,” said the CEO of NOTO Arts District, Pedro Concepcion.
“I think having a space like this available for art shows children that adults put enough emphasis on art as well, and that in their future they may be able to do art in a way that would work with their occupation,” said NOTO board member Lisa LaRue-Baker.

People are invited to attend an upcoming art chalk walk in NOTO from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 that friends and families can participate in. You can find NOTO in the 800 to the 1000 blocks of North Kansas Avenue in the north Topeka area.
