TOPEKA (KSNT) – With the school year about to come an end and finals starting, one local college brought in some furry friends to help de-stress its students.
Washburn University hosted a local kitten rescue team on May 7, brining in a dozen kittens for students to use as free therapy. Students could come alone or with friends to hold, play with or just relax with some sleepy and occasionally energetic kittens. The students also got to suggest names for their new friends.
“Makes you more calmer and you kind of start to forget your focus on the kitten and you forget about the stresses of, ‘oh, I got this big final,’ or ‘how did I do on this last one?'” said a volunteer with Team Kitten, Lori Coleman.
“Kind of helps them give them an outlet to get away from the worries of what all going on this week for them,” Coleman continued.

This event happens in the fall and spring, so if you missed it this semester, don’t worry, it will be back in the fall. Team Kitten is a non-profit organization run by volunteers with the goal of rescue and rehabilitate at-risk kittens.
