Warm and muggy conditions will continue tonight under a partly cloudy sky. There is a slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm after sunset and into Friday morning. Any storm activity should move out quickly, leaving us with partly cloudy skies to start the day on Friday.
More dangerous heat is on the way, with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees Friday afternoon. Heat index values could once again reach 105 degrees, making it feel even hotter outdoors. Much of northeast Kansas remains under an Extreme Heat Warning through Friday evening. South to southwest winds will continue at 10 to 15 mph, adding a bit of a breeze but offering little relief from the heat.
The heat won’t last all the way through the weekend for all areas, as a cold front is expected to move into the region by the end of the week, bringing temperatures back into the 80s and lower 90s near/north of the front by the end of the week. Areas south of the front will be hotter, so we’ll be watching the front’s position closely throughout the weekend.
