Another slight chance for thunderstorms is possible tonight, with activity expected to wind down around midnight. The greatest storm chances will be northwest of I-35. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could become strong enough to produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and locally heavy rainfall.
By Saturday morning, a few light showers may still be lingering, and we’ll start the day with mostly cloudy skies. Any remaining rain should move out quickly, with conditions gradually improving as the day goes on.
Another hot day is on tap for Saturday, with afternoon temperatures climbing to near 100 degrees once again. Heat index values could reach 105 degrees, making it feel even hotter outdoors. Much of northeast Kansas remains under an Extreme Heat Warning through Saturday evening. South to southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will continue, providing little relief from the oppressive heat.
The heat won’t last all the way through the weekend for all areas, as a cold front is expected to move into the region by the end of the weekend, bringing temperatures back into the 80s and lower 90s near/north of the front by the end of the week. Areas south of the front will be hotter, so we’ll be watching the front’s position closely throughout the weekend.
