LAWRENCE (KSNT) — It was a thrilling win for Kansas volleyball in Horejsi on Saturday.
The Jayhawks grabbed the win against the Blue Jays 3-2 for their last exhibition match of the season.
KU took the first set 25-22, before Creighton took the second set 25-23 and the third 26-24. The ‘Hawks went on to win the fourth set and control the final set of the game, clinching the fifth-set with a 15-7 win.
“Really nice to play Creighton in an exhibition,” Kansas volleyball head coach Matt Ulmer told 27 Sports. “I thought we learned a lot, good and bad, you know where we need to grow and what’s working well, but again, a really quality opponent so that we can learn.”
The freshman Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Taylor Stanley led the ‘Hawks in kills, and showed how she will be a dominate attacker this season.
“I thought Taylor Stanley was pretty impressive on offense,” Ulmer said. “I thought our connection to the outside, you know, needs to get better, and I thought it got better as the match went on. I thought our ball control had moments; our block needs to continue to get better, all things that you know that you think is going to happen, and it happens.”
Kansas opens its season against Pittsburgh in the ‘Open Spikes Classic’ on Friday, Aug. 28. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
