MANHATTAN (KSNT) – A dream start to the season for the Wildcats.
K-State soccer improved to 4-0 on the young season on Sunday, Aug. 23, beating South Dakota State at home 2-0.
The win marks the third shutout of the season for K-State. Goalkeeper Maddie Sibbing sets the new program record for shutouts with 11.
“It means a lot to me just because I’ve had such a long college soccer journey, but I think it also a testament our entire backline. They are incredible and doing everything they can from letting the ball get to me,” Sibbing said.
SDSU’s Mallorie Benhart was given a red card and ejected in the 19th minute.
The Wildcats capitalized and found the back of the net in the 28th minute as Langley Mayers scored with an assist from Rilyn Rintoul.
K-State doubled the lead in the 51st minute with a goal from Gabby DeMers. She was assisted by Lauren Moylan and Mayers.
The Wildcats outshot the Jackrabbits 22-5.
“I also was really proud of just our defensive effort overall,” Corbin said. “It’s something that we really built our identity in as our press and our defending mentality, and just having individual moments work out for us because of our work, our energy, our competitiveness, and so it just really felt like a complete performance today.”
K-State is back in action on Aug. 30 to host Nebraska.
