TOPEKA (KSNT) – All eyes on the Ichabods.
The Washburn volleyball team was tabbed to finish first in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. Washburn is tied with Nebraska-Kearney for first place.
The Ichabods received five first-place votes while the Lopers received four.
Washburn is coming off a 27-5 season (13-3 MIAA), which saw the Ichabods share the conference’s regular season title while advancing to the NCAA Central Regional semifinals.
“We have as much talent in the gym as I’ve ever had here from top to bottom. That doesn’t always translate to the court,” Washburn head coach Chris Herron told 27 Sports. “We are happy with our offensive capabilities, but we have to do some other things to be successful in this conference.”
The Ichabods will open the season on Thursday, Aug. 27, hosting the Washburn Invitational.
Washburn will open with Oklahoma Christian University. First serve set for 6 p.m.
