Tonight, we will remain mostly clear as temperatures fall into the lower 60s across much of the area. There is a slim chance for an isolated thunderstorm overnight, but rain chances will continue to decrease through early Friday morning.
Friday will bring the last day of upper 80s before a long stretch of 90-degree temperatures returns to the forecast. South winds will begin to increase, with gusts nearing 20 mph by the afternoon. Dew points will remain low, allowing for another day of dry and relatively comfortable air.
For the weekend, we’re tracking plenty of sunshine along with gusty south winds. The southerly flow will usher in additional warm air, pushing highs into the middle 90s on Saturday and the upper 90s on Sunday and Monday. Heat index values could climb as high as 105 degrees in some locations. Wind gusts may reach 40 mph on Sunday, which is also the annual Topeka Food Truck Festival, once again falling on what appears to be the hottest day of the week.
Looking ahead, our next chance for storms arrives Sunday night into Monday morning. Any storms should clear early Monday, but temperatures will remain hot with highs continuing in the middle to upper 90s. Overnight lows will only fall into the middle 70s, leading to warm starts each morning. Dew points will also gradually increase by the end of the weekend, bringing more humidity back to the area.
