TOPEKA (KSNT) – Local advocates are helping inform Kansas voters about what they need to know ahead of the general election in November.
On the first Tuesday of every month, the League of Women Voters hosts a presentation to discuss various civic engagement topics. This month featured one topic that will be coming up on the November ballot.
Marisa O’Gara, a senior policy advisor, presented to the attendees a basic overview of the proposed Kansas amendment change that aims to change language that only U.S. citizens can vote in the state of Kansas. The League of Women Voters also spoke on what voters should keep in mind heading into the polls in the fall along with resources they can use to learn more about these specific items.

“Here we have an opportunity to bring topics that we feel will be essential to ensure that our voters are informed,” said Glenda Overstreet Vaughan, president of the Topeka and Shawnee County League of Women Voters. “And today, you know, topics such as ballots, the ballot issues such as the constitutional amendment are essential in giving people information they need to be informed voters.”
Next month’s topic will be on elections. Following election day on Nov. 3, the league will be hosting a summary of the general election.
