EMPORIA (KSNT) – The Hornets fell to the Hawks in a hard-fought fight on Wednesday.
Emporia State soccer (1-1-1) lost to Rockhurst at home, 3-2.
Emporia got off to a hot start with junior forward Ava Huston scoring in the first ninety seconds.
Despite the Hornets’ electric start, Rockhurst responded with two goals in the next three minutes to go up 2-1.
The Hawks continued to capitalize on their lead midway through the first half and took a 3-1 lead.
In the 40th minute, Emporia State was able to find its second goal with Ella Favot finding the back of the net.
After the break, the Hornets were able to apply pressure on the Rockhurst defense and tallied five shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Emporia State continued their pressure in the second half, racking up a total of 16 shots and 11 on goal, but fell to Rockhurst in the end.
The Hornets will travel to Sooner State on Saturday, Sept. 5, as they take on Southwestern Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
