TOPEKA (KSNT) - Prosecutors have filed a murder charge against a man accused of killing a Topeka 18-year-old in late August.
Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced in a press release that prosecutors have filed charges against Topeka resident 23-year-old Erwin T. Lockridge Jr. in connection to a recent deadly shooting. Law enforcement is accusing Lockridge of shooting and killing Topeka resident 18-year-old Joshua A. Stockman.
- Murder in the first degree; premeditation
- Criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, building, or structure
- Criminal damage to property; damage less than $1,000
- Criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, building, or structure
- Criminal damage to property; damage of at least $1,000 but less than $25,000

Law enforcement initially received reports of a shooting around 12:05 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 23 in the area of the 2300 block of Southeast 23rd Street. Police responding to the shooting located one person, later identified as Stockman, at the scene who was unresponsive. First responders declared him dead at the scene.
Police arrested Lockridge in connection with the homicide investigation on Aug. 29.
