EMPORIA (KSNT) – Emporia police have arrested two people after reportedly finding numerous dogs and cats living in unsafe conditions at a local residence.
The Emporia Police Department (EPD) shared in a press release on Sept. 2 that animal control officers and law enforcement executed a search warrant in the 600 block of Lakeview Street in Emporia. Police searched the area as part of an investigation into suspected animal abuse and neglect.
The EPD said that its officers and animal control personnel found several animals living in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions. Law enforcement recovered 10 cats and 31 dogs from the residence with assistance from Prairie Paws, a local animal shelter.

Police arrested a 44-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman in connection with the investigation. The EPD said they are facing charges of animal cruelty and neglect.
