PITTSBURG (KSNT) — The Hornets stun the Gorillas on the road.
Emporia State defeated the No. 10 Pittsburg State Gorillas, 21-10, in ‘The Jungle.’
ESU opened up the scoring with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Camden Crooks to take an early 7-0 lead.
Nearing the end of the first, Ben Harris would find Trenden Collins for two-yards to double the Hornet lead, 14-0.
The Gorillas would cut the lead in half in the final 17 seconds of the quarter, making things 14-7.
Crooks made a return to the endzone in the late stages of the second quarter with a one-yard rushing touchdown, improving to 21-7.
Neither team would score in the third, and the Gorillas would add just three points in the fourth quarter, via a field goal.
Emporia State will host it’s home opener Sept. 12, against Michigan Tech. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
