LYON COUNTY (KSNT) – State troopers report that several people were hurt when the driver of a commercial bus fell asleep and crashed in Lyon County Monday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) said the crash occurred at 5:35 a.m. on Sept. 14 on I-335 near mile-marker 131 in Lyon County near the Emporia Service Area. The crash involved one vehicle: a 2024 Van Hool Commuter Coach bus.
The KHP said the driver of the bus fell asleep, causing the vehicle to drift off the road and hit a delineator post on the shoulder of the highway.
Medical personnel transported two passengers on the bus, a 34-year-old man from Houston, Texas and a 21-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri, to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Four other passengers complained of pain following the crash, but were not transported to hospitals for further care. The driver of the bus was uninjured.
