TOPEKA (KSNT) – Local historians will be guiding people on a tour of several important historic sites in Topeka later this month.
Bob Keeshan, board trustee for the Shawnee County Historical Society, stopped by the 27 News studio on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 17, to sit down with Anchor David George to talk about a historical buildings and homes tour coming up in Topeka. He said local historians will guide people on a tour of five buildings in the Capital City:
- Docking State Office Building – 915 SW Harrison St.
- The Tinkham House – 827 SW Topeka Blvd.
- The Grand Masonic Lodge – 320 SW Eighth Ave.
- Fire Station No. 2 – 719 SW Van Buren St.
- Dillon House – 404 SW Ninth St.
Keeshan touched on each of the historic locations, including their significance to the historic record of the Capital City, alongside what people can expect to learn at each stop.

“Well, this is the 1884 house, it’s about 5,000 square feet, looks at the Capitol Building,” Keeshan said when talking about the Tinkham House section of the tour. “Eric Kjorlie is the attorney that’s been there for quite a while. He will lead that group and the oakwood work, the stained glass, the leaded glass, it’s just amazing in there. Plus, it’s one that still has what was called a carriage house, the stables from 1884 and that will be open and you can see that as well as the house.”
The Shawnee County Historic Society fall tour is set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 starting off at the Docking State Office Building and ending with a reception at the Dillon House.
