GRANDVIEW PLAZA (KSNT) – Federal agents are assisting with an investigation into a large fire that burned at an apartment complex near Junction City over the weekend.
Officials report a large apartment complex fire at Geary Estates that burned on the night of Saturday, Sept. 19 has left numerous residents without homes. Personnel with numerous local first responder agencies, including the Grandview Fire Department and Junction City Fire Department, responded to the situation.
State Fire Marshal of Kansas Mark Engholm said in a statement on social media on Sept. 20 that personnel with several northeast Kansas fire departments are working alongside special agents associated with the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to investigate the origin of the fire. He said the fire “devastated” one of the apartment complex structures.

Staff at the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library in Junction City shared in a statement on social media on Sept. 20 that people wanting to help the residents impacted by this fire can make financial and food donations and participate in volunteer efforts. Library officials asked that all physical donations be paused until Sept. 23 while assistance efforts are coordinated with other local officials.
“With the fire that occurred at Geary Estates, we understand that everyone in the community wants to help and jump in. We are happy to report that all families affected are in temporary housing and all infant needs have been met.”
