MANHATTAN (KSNT) – A judge sentenced a Kansas father accused of killing his 1-year-old daughter three years ago to prison Tuesday.
A Riley County judge sentenced Matthew P. W. Miller to 169 months, or a little over 14 years, in prison on Sept. 22. Prosecutors accused Matthew Miller of playing a role in the death of his one-year-old daughter Ziya Miller in 2023.
Junction City Police received a report of a child not breathing in April 2023, according to the Riley County Police Department (RCPD). Investigators determined the girl died in Manhattan before her body was taken to Junction City.
RCPD arrested Matthew Miller and Sonya S. L. Williams in March 2024 in connection with their daughter’s death.

Matthew Miller entered a plea agreement in August this year, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to reduced charges of involuntary manslaughter, distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm and aggravated endangering of a child.
Williams is charged with first degree murder and aggravated endangerment of a child. Her next court appearance is currently set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2026.
