TOPEKA (KSNT) – Deputies have arrested a Topeka man in connection to the death of a local woman earlier this week.
Abigail Christian with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement has arrested Jesse B. Varnon, 22, of Topeka for his alleged role in the death of local woman following a reported domestic disturbance incident on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Deputies arrested Varnon on the following charges:
- Murder in the first degree
- Aggravated burglary
- Aggravated battery
- Domestic battery
- Criminal damage to property
- Interference with law enforcement

Christian said deputies were flagged down by a man, identified as Varnon, shortly after 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the parking lot of the Law Enforcement Center in Topeka. Varnon reportedly told deputies that a disturbance had recently occurred at a home in the 3600 block of Southeast Shawnee Heights Road and that a woman inside the house was seriously hurt.
Law enforcement responded to the home and entered the residence. Deputies found a woman inside with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies attempted life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived. The woman was declared dead at the scene.
Law enforcement has yet to identify the woman who died as a result of this incident. Christian said the investigation into this situation is ongoing.
