WABAUNSEE COUNTY (KSNT) – State health officials report a community in Wabaunsee County is under a boil water advisory until further notice.
Staff with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) said in a press release on Sept. 28 that a boil water advisory is in effect for the City of Eskridge’s public water supply system. People living in Eskridge who rely on this system are encouraged to take precautions while the advisory remains in place.
- Boil water for a minute before drinking or preparing food or use bottled water.
- Get rid of ice cubes and don’t use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
- If your tap water looks unclean, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
- Disinfect dishes and other surfaces that have contact with food by letting them sit for at least a minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
- Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Parents should supervise children while they are bathing to make sure water isn’t ingested. People who have cuts or severe rashes may need to consult their physicians.
KDHE personnel issued the boil water advisory due to a local equipment failure in the control system that caused a loss of pressure. A failure to maintain adequate pressure can result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination in the water.
