TOPEKA (KSNT) – City of Topeka officials report that part of Southeast 29th Street will be closed next week as work moves forward on a major road improvement project.
City of Topeka staff said in a press release that workers will close Southeast 29th Street at Butcher Creek starting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, as part of an ongoing improvement project in this area. The closure will include Southeast 29th Street from just east of Southeast Kansas Place to 201 Southeast 29th St.
City officials said the closure is necessary for crews to finish work on the Butcher Creek box culvert, remove and replace parts of the pavement and to install water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. Drivers can expect the closure to remain in place for six months.
The entire Southeast 29th Street improvement project, which extends from Kansas Avenue to Adams Street, includes structural modifications to the Butcher Creek bridge, pavement repairs, widening of the roadway, storm sewer and sanitary sewer replacement and water line replacement, according to the City of Topeka. It also includes the installation of a new traffic signal at Southeast 29th Street and Southeast Fremont Street/Southeast Cunningham Street.
