TOPEKA (KSNT) – City officials are introducing a new text notification service designed to help Topeka residents stay informed about community events and local government initiatives.
City officials announced in an Oct. 1 press release that a new texting service, TextMyGov, is now available for locals to sign up for. City staff said this initiative will be led by the City’s Office of Inclusive Communities and the Communications Department.
The project was funding through a grant from the Information Network of Kansas. Citizens who want to receive alerts in English can text “Topeka” to 91896 while Spanish-speaking residents can text “TopekaEspanol” to the same number. Standard message and data rates may apply.
“We’re always looking for ways to make communication simpler and more accessible for everyone in Topeka,” City of Topeka Director of Communications Dan Garrett said.

City staff will use this new texting service to notify residents about upcoming citywide public meetings, new initiatives, important reminders and opportunities to get involved with the city government. Officials said the service is intended to provide information about city programs and activities and should not be considered an emergency alert system.
“Our goal is to help neighbors stay engaged and informed in ways that feel easy and meaningful,” said Monique Glaude’, director of the Office of Inclusive Communities. “By offering alerts in both English and Spanish, we’re ensuring more residents can connect with their City, their neighborhoods, and each other.”
