MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Transportation officials have issued a warning for highway travelers in the Manhattan area Thursday due to local flooding problems.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) issued the warning at 2:35 p.m. on Oct. 1 for a section of Highway 24 where it meets Excel Road just east of Manhattan. KDOT staff report that water is covering the roadway in both directions.
Local law enforcement agencies are encouraging people to avoid driving into flooded areas.
KDOT staff are reporting other local roads in northeast Kansas are being impacted by high water levels Thursday as rain continues to fall over the area. Sections of KS 16, KS 9 and KS 87 Highways are also closed due to high water levels.
National Weather Service (NWS) staff have issued flash flood warnings for multiple areas until 6 p.m. on Oct. 1. Counties in flash flood warnings include Brown, Geary, Jackson, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Riley, Shawnee and Wabaunsee.
