POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY (KSNT) – State health officials are warning people to stay out of a creek in Pottawatomie County that feeds into Tuttle Creek Lake due to a possible health risk.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) have issued a stream advisory for McIntyre Creek in Pottawatomie County. KDHE staff recommend both people and animals stay out of the water at this time.
The KDHE’s advisory includes McIntyre Creek from the intersection of Bennett Road and McIntyre Creek Road downstream to where it feeds into Tuttle Creek Lake at McIntyre Creek Cove. Health officials issued the advisory due to a wastewater discharge from a confined feeding facility.
KDHE staff said bacteria levels will be elevated in the creek due to the discharge. Health officials have yet to identify any reported fish kill events connected to this advisory.
Over 4.8 million eye drop products recalled nationwide: FDA
KDHE personnel will rescind the advisory once the water has been deemed safe to enter again for humans and animals.
