EMPORIA (KSNT) – “Refilleries” are growing in popularity across the Midwest, including in Kansas.
Juniper & Sage opened in Emporia last month. It offers bulk options on household essentials, personal care products and pantry staples. Refilleries like Juniper & Sage aim to provide high-quality products at lower prices by helping reduce packaging waste through reusable containers.
Owner, Katherine Stueve, said she wants to make sustainable and affordable products more accessible to the community.
“I always kind of tell people that, like, the movie “Wall-E,” like, it may be five generations from now, but like, we continue to throw things away at the place that we do, we’re going to run out of space to put it in,” Stueve said. “So, using things that still have function, I mean, there’s no reason to throw it away. So, just keep using it but also being able to get high-quality products without having to pay for that glass container every single time and just making it more affordable for the household.”

As a former single mother, Stueve said she struggled to keep household and cleaning products on hand that were clean and sustainable. She said that experience inspired her to launch her new business.
You can find Juniper & Sage at 729 Commercial St. in Emporia. For more information about this new business, check out its website.
