LAWRENCE (KSNT) — The Jayhawks are adding some more size to their roster.
Kansas men’s basketball head coach Bill Self announced the addition of Purdue transfer forward Trey Kaufman-Renn on Monday morning.
Kaufman-Renn, who will be a fifth-year player for KU this upcoming season, averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists last season with the Boilermakers, while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor.
The forward is taking freshman Grant Mordini’s spot on the roster, as Mordini suffered a season-ending injury to his patellar tendon in a September practice.
“Trey Kaufman-Renn, who had a tremendous career at Purdue, has enrolled in classes, and is practicing with us as of Sunday,” Self said via press release. “He reached the national championship game, the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 at Purdue and has been extremely well-drilled and well-coached. Even though it’s late in the process, because of his basketball IQ, we think his transition will be quicker than most put in the same circumstance.”
The ‘Hawks will play their second preseason exhibition matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they host Louisville. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
