KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Victor Gabriel Moreno in downtown Lawrence, Kansas, over the weekend.
According to a Facebook post by the Lawrence Police Department (LKPD) Tuesday morning, a 23-year-old man from Olathe, Kansas, is currently in custody for his alleged involvement in the killing of Moreno.
At this time, formal charges have not been filed against the suspect; however, the LKPD has suggested charges of first-degree murder to county prosecutors. Until these charges are formally filed, the suspect will not be named.
The arrest stems from a shooting that took place early Sunday morning in downtown Lawrence.
Previous reporting states that at about 3 a.m., officers were called to the west side of a parking lot near New Hampshire and East Seventh streets on reports of gunfire in the area.
Officers reported finding a victim, later identified as Moreno. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was arrested at about 8 p.m. Monday, the LKPD said. He remains in custody at the
Douglas County Correctional Facility pending formal charges.
