TOPEKA (KSNT) – Kansas State Treasurer Democratic nominee Juan Luengo stopped by the 27 News Studio to talk about the upcoming general election.
Earlier this month, we caught up with the current State Treasurer Steven Johnson (R) who is seeking a second term. Now we are hearing from Luengo who is one of two nominees challenging the seat.
Luengo is the CEO of Engage Insurance Group Inc. and has worked in risk management for over 20 years. He emphasized that the treasurer’s race was one of the most important in the election.
“You have to be able to look at fiscal responsibility, and it starts, you know, to a degree with the Treasurer’s office,” Luengo said. “The Treasurer’s office has the tools, it’s just that they’re underutilized to help, small businesses, farmers, women, homeownership.”
Luengo also mentioned that he wants to keep the workforce in Kansas after they graduate from school.
“One of the biggest issues is that Kansas has is upon graduation, most of these graduates leave Kansas,” Luengo said. “We want to retain the best talent here in Kansas, so whether it’s in the private sector or in the government. I want to make sure that Kansas can compete with the private sector, not saying we have to take all their talent, but we have to be able to compete and retain the best talent here in Kansas.”
We reached out to the third candidate in the race, Eric Lund (L), and requested an interview.
