TOPEKA (KSNT) – The monthly Avenue Market at Evergy Plaza is returning to the Capital City, this time with a Halloween theme.
Evergy Plaza in downtown Topeka is hosting another of its monthly Avenue Markets. Past themes included “Splash and Shop,” “Back 2 School,” “Fall Market” and now “Halloween Market.” This event will be structured much like a farmers’ market.
Dylan Tyler with Evergy Plaza said this event marks the first Halloween-inspired market for Evergy Plaza. He said people can expect live music, spooky bingo, pumpkin painting and carving and more.
“Some of the responses we’ve been getting have shown people are really excited and want to see more events like this,” Tyler said.
Organizers said booths from over 40 different vendors are expected to be present, allowing for a diverse and robust shopping experience at the plaza. Some of the vendors will be handing out candy, and so children are encouraged to wear costumes. The shopping experience is also anticipated to include:
- Boutiques
- Accessories
- Skin Care
- Spices
- Artwork
- Candles
- Pastries
- Drinks
In addition to shopping opportunities, a pumpkin carving contest will also take place. The hours for carving will be 9-10 a.m. and will award $500 in total prize money. People can participate in the contest for free, but it is limited to 30 contestants, and participants will be using the “provided simple carving kits.” Pumpkins will also be provided. Craftsmanship, creativity and originality, and visual impact are the three categories will be judged based on. First place will take home $300 and second place $100, with smaller prizes being given out down to fifth place.

Organizers said a long list of local food trucks and vendors are expected to be present as well. Haunts and Hearts will make up the Halloween-themed live entertainment, performing from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the day of the market.
The Halloween-themed Avenue Market will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 620 South Kansas Ave. in downtown Topeka. You can learn more about the event by clicking here.
