TOPEKA (KSNT) – Road work crews will be temporarily closing part of Highway 24 in Topeka for short durations throughout the day on Wednesday this week.
Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) said that workers will be closing Highway 24 at the Soldier Creek bridge for 15 minutes at a time between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 28. She said workers are moving beams for the new westbound bridge structure as part of the ongoing Highway 24 improvements project that started in 2023.
Craft said flaggers will be present to direct traffic during these temporary closures. She said drivers should plan for possible delays and account for extra travel time on the highway Wednesday.
KDOT’s Highway 24 improvements project includes areas on the highway from North Kansas Avenue in north Topeka east to Muddy Creek in Jefferson County. KDOT officials anticipate completion of the project in 2027. You can learn more about the project by heading to KDOT’s website.
