TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local motorcycle dealership is shutting down permanently in the Capital City Wednesday.
Owner and CEO of Towers’ Historic Harley-Davidson in Topeka, Steve Towers, announced in a press release that the business, located at 2047 SW Topeka Blvd., is shutting down as of Oct. 28. He said the decision was made as part of a larger strategic initiative to build up the organization’s long-term position, optimize operations and focus resources on markets with the biggest opportunities for sustainable growth.
Towers explained the decision follows an evaluation of the dealership’s performance, market conditions and long-term business outlook.
“Closing a dealership is never a decision we take lightly,” Towers said. “However, as an organization, we must continually evaluate our operations and make strategic decisions that position our company for long-term success. The closure of Historic Harley-Davidson is a deliberate business decision that allows us to better allocate our resources, strengthen our existing operations, and focus on markets where we see the greatest potential for growth.”
Towers said it was determined that continued investment in the Topeka location is no longer aligned with the larger business strategies for Historic Harley-Davidson.

“We sincerely appreciate the employees who have dedicated their time and efforts to Historic Harley-Davidson, along with the loyal customers who have supported the dealership throughout the years,” Towers said. “Their contributions have not gone unnoticed.”
Towers said the closure of the Topeka location is specific to Historic Harley-Davidson and shouldn’t be seen as a reflection of the financial stability or future of Towers’ Harley Davidson Group. He said the organization is committed to its other dealership operations and to the wider Harley-Davidson brand.
Towers acquired the Historic Harley-Davidson in Topeka in 2025 from former owner Mike Patterson. He previously shared with 27 News tentative plans to move the dealership the former Regal West Ridge 8 movie theater in west Topeka. The theater closed just over a year ago.
Dealership staff marked the 75th anniversary of the dealership of the business in 2024.
