TOPEKA (KSNT) – Governor Laura Kelly has issued a half-staff order that will take effect next week on Monday.
Kelly announced in a press release that flags will be flown at half-staff throughout the Sunflower State on Nov. 2. Flags will be directed to fly at the half-staff position from sunup to sundown statewide.
Kelly issued the order to honor farm workers’ rights advocate Dolores Huerta who died at the age of 96. A vigil was recently held to honor her memory and life’s work in Bakersfield, California.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dolores Huerta, who dedicated her life to fighting for farm workers’ rights, civil rights, and women’s equality,” Kelly said. “As co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union, her courage sparked a movement that transformed our country. May she rest in peace.”
