TOPEKA (KSNT) – Part of South Kansas Avenue in downtown Topeka is set to close beginning next week for continued work on the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project.
Officials with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) said in a social media post that Kansas Avenue will be shut down between First Street and Third Street. The closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Nov. 2-4.
KDOT staff said bridge girders will be installed on the new westbound section of the Polk-Quincy Viaduct. Drivers will be directed to a detour on Third Street, Topeka Boulevard and Northwest Morse Street. Drivers will still be able to use the Kansas Avenue bridge while this work is ongoing.
New equipment installed at Topeka YMCA
The closure is tied to KDOT’s ongoing $239 million Polk-Quincy Viaduct project. More information about the project is available on KDOT’s website.
