MERIDEN (KSNT) – Our October Teacher of the Month is making waves at a local school in Jefferson County.
Jefferson West Middle School teacher Audra Hanson has spent more than a decade teaching students with special needs. She told 27 News that she’s picked up a few things along her journey in education.
“I’ve always known that I wanted to be a teacher,” Hanson said. “It’s just been a passion of mine, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Hanson has worked as a special education teacher at Jefferson West Middle School 11 years, making sure every student is guided towards success.
“I love each of them so much and I think that you just can never have a bad day,” Hanson said. “When you’re teaching, you might have some bad moments, but there’s always something positive about the day.”
Hanson spends hours each day going over schoolwork, often working one-on-one with her students and making sure they’re able to put their best foot forward. However, she said what she’s learned from them is something she’ll never forget.

“Some of them have some really hard lives and they come here and a lot of them go ahead and put forth 100%,” Hanson said. “So, they have taught me to be resilient.”
Hanson also spends time mentoring fellow teachers so they can follow in her footsteps.
