TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 17-year-old Topeka student.
Tiffany Anderson, superintendent of Topeka Public Schools, said J’Lanette Harrison, a senior at Highland Park High School, died over the weekend. The district told families that Harrison was active in her school community and said counseling resources would be available for students and staff.
“J’Lanette was a scholar who was actively involved in her school community and was cherished by both students and staff. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by the entire Highland Park High School community.
We were given permission by the family to share this heartbreaking news. While we do not have additional details to share at this time, we ask that families and staff respect the privacy of the family during this incredibly difficult time.
Our district mental health team will be available on Monday and throughout the week to provide support to students and staff at Highland Park High and other impacted schools who may need assistance as we navigate this tragic loss.
Please keep J’Lanette’s family and all those impacted uplifted in your thoughts and prayers.”
