TOPEKA (KSNT) – It’s the day after the general election, and many people are wondering what’s next as the Secretary of State’s office announced close-race audits for six races.
Election officials in Shawnee County said the canvass event happens 13 days after election day. What that means for election workers is that they need to collect all the equipment used at all 87 polling locations.
Shawnee County election commissioner Andrew Howell told 27 News they are triple checking that all ballots are in sealed containers and all affidavits are in place.
“So, it’s really just a lot of kind of housekeeping of making sure everything makes it back, making sure all the details are correct,” Howell said. “We also have a lot of state-required documents that we have to keep track of, also preparing for the audit. You know, we have an audit that we have to do. So, we’re preparing the documents and precinct lists for the potential audit that’s coming up in the next week or so. So, there’s a lot going on.”
