MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Little Apple residents can expect some big changes to come in the weeks ahead to a local park as new equipment is installed.
City of Manhattan Parks & Recreation officials shared in a press release that work started on the improvement project at Douglass Park on Nov. 4. The project area at the park will remain closed during the construction period, which is anticipated to continue to the end of the year.
City officials said the improvements include the installation of new slides, swings and new safety surfacing in the playground area. The nearby picnic shelter will also be replaced by the end of the project.
City commissioners approved the use of over $410,000 of Community Development Block Grant program funding for the Douglass Park improvements project at a meeting in August. The CDBG program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, provides annual funding to local and state governments for community improvement projects.
