TOPEKA (KSNT) – Shawnee County Crime Stoppers held its annual chili cook-off fundraiser Friday at Washburn University.
Teams from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, the Topeka Police Department and other law enforcement agencies participated in the Nov. 6 event. For $10, attendees could sample all 14 chilies.
For the fourth year in a row, the Shawnee County District Attorney’s office took home the win.
Proceeds from the fundraiser help Crime Stoppers continue offering rewards for anonymous tips that help solve crimes.
“It’s important for us because we want to help solve crimes and make our community safer,” said Taylor Bugg, board member for Shawnee County Crime Stoppers. “We’ve actually solved a lot of cold cases and unsolved murders with some of those tips that come in. So, it’s really important that we’re able to provide this to the community.”
