TOPEKA (KSNT) – Dozens of Topeka volunteers are prepping traditional German food for a crowd of thousands ahead of an annual celebration.
Leading up to Germanfest, members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church are firing up the grills for a major celebration. Visitors can expect everything from bratwurst and fried chicken to Sauerkraut and Krautstrudels.
As a treat for their hard work this week, volunteers who prepared the food got to dine a bit early.
“Wednesday is the busiest day, then Thursday is a bit slower, but it keeps going and then tomorrow we’ll start again in the morning,” said event organizer Bob Steinbock. “It’s unbelievable the help. It’s great. Yesterday, I thanked them all for helping out because you don’t have that help, you don’t get this accomplished, so it’s pretty cool.”
