TOPEKA (KSNT) – 27 News partnered with Dillons Food Stores and Harvesters for a citywide food drive Friday, generating enough food to make about 800 food kits.
This is part of our parent company’s Founder’s Day of Caring, an annual volunteer event at all Nexstar stations around the country that recognizes our company’s birthday. 27 News anchors and other staff members were at grocery store locations collecting donations.
The meal kits include recipe cards and are used to help underprivileged people in northeast Kansas prepare meals at home. 27 News employees packed the boxes on site.

Dillons kickstarted the drive with a $5,000 donation of food. While Harvesters recently relocated their distribution center from Topeka to Lawrence, to accommodate the I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct project through downtown Topeka, the food bank continues to serve Shawnee County.
