TOPEKA (KSNT) – It may not feel like it recently, but the countdown to the holidays is officially on, and one local non-profit is celebrating a little early.
Despite the heat, Santa stopped by Topeka to help SLI kick off its Christmas in July. It’s the official launch party for the 2025 Festival of Trees, SLI’s signature fundraising event, benefiting programs that support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“We kind of have a whole bunch of different ways that you can get involved in this year’s Festival of Trees,” Shannon Wartoa, director of special events at SLI, said. “Whether it’s designing a tree, whether it’s volunteering, whether it’s donating to the silent auction, or just kind of coming to our different events. And we have information about all of that and different ways you can get involved.”
The 48th annual Festival of Trees kicks off on November 25th inside the Fairlawn Plaza Mall.
