TOPEKA (KSNT) – Ms. Wheelchair Kansas, Autumn Green, joined the 27 News morning show as she is preparing to take the stage for the Ms. Wheelchair America 2026 national competition!
27 News asked Green what she is most looking forward to about heading into the competition.
“I would say definitely meeting the girls in person,” Green told us. “We have a group chat right now. They’re so supportive. It’s very much like a sisterhood already. It’s it feels like we’re more like sisters than competitors. So most mostly that speech. And I like public speaking, so I’m looking forward to that as well.”
Green is a Kansas native and a KU Alum. It’s been 15 years since Green’s car accident that left her with a spinal cord injury.

According to an email about Green from Brittany Flowers, “Since then, she’s accomplished many goals, including founding the KU student group AbilityKU. Autumn is passionate about improving accessibility on college campuses and is hopeful sharing her story and advocacy work will earn her the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2026.”
27 News asked Green what got her started with the Ms. Wheelchair Kansas organization.
“Mainly just advocacy in general,” Green said. “It really started when I was injured, but it really blossomed at KU with some of the challenges I faced as a college student. I got involved with Ms. Amazing, which is for all disabilities; it’s very similar to Ms. Wheelchair Kansas.”
The national competition will take place August 18 through 24 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Heat advisory in place across Kansas
Women from 20 states across the nation will travel to the Grand Rapids Ms. Wheelchair America competition to showcase their advocacy for people living with disabilities. The 54th national competition will select a spokeswoman for persons with disabilities to hold the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2026.
