TOPEKA (KNST) – An exhibit sharing information about African Americans’ early days in Kansas will be held at the West Ridge Mall starting next month.
The “Our Stories: African American Topeka Before and After Brown” exhibit will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting on Sept. 5 and will be open until July 31, 2026. The exhibit aims to share information on Topeka’s historic Black neighborhoods and on the famous 1954 Supreme Court decision.
The exhibit is being organized by the Black American Blueprint Collective, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Black history. The exhibit was made possible with support from various organizations, including Humanities Kansas, Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area, Washburn University, Visit Topeka and the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
