MANHATTAN (KSNT) – The Little Apple community came together in Manhattan last weekend for the third annual Shoes For Hope event.
The Flint Hills Volunteer Center hosted the event which honors 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. First responders set up their vehicles for kids to interact with and helped kids try on shoes.
Event organizers told 27 News what this event means for the community.
“It’s honoring those lives lost, and what the families of those who lost their lives wanted,” said Lori Bishop, executive director of Flint Hills Center. “They wanted to bring a community together… love the smiles on these kids’ faces.”

Volunteers at the event gave out more than 400 pairs of shoes for the kids to help them be ready for the school year.
